Broome County, New York Inmate Search
An inmate search is a public service that allows individuals to confirm whether a person is being held in a correctional facility. Basically, it is a "check-in" to see if someone has been arrested, what they are charged with, and where they are housed. In Broome County, there is one primary correctional facility where individuals are held after arrest or sentencing. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for the facility and oversees its operations through its Corrections Division.
There are currently no municipal, state, or federal correctional facilities in the county. However, the Broome County Sheriff’s Corrections Division has agreements with the U.S. Marshals Service and theU.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement to house federal detainees.
The existence of a single correctional facility in Broome County helps individuals streamline their search for an inmate. An inmate search usually reveals an inmate’s demographic details, arrest information, and custody status.

Despite these multiple daily blocks, inmates in General Housing are limited to a maximum of 2 hours of contact visitation per week. That time must be used during either the morning, afternoon, or evening visitation hours and cannot be split across different days or sessions. Visits can range from 30 minutes to the full 2-hour maximum.
Importantly, it is the inmate, not the visitor, who is responsible for scheduling visitation times, and inmates who break jail rules may lose up to 1 hour of visiting time per week as a sanction. The jail also limits the number of people who may be in the visiting area between the morning and afternoon sessions to 1o people.
To reduce the risk of overcrowding during visits, the correctional facility offers video visits via the inmate tablet system. However, video sessions must be purchased, and the rates are set by the third-party tablet service provider (the same one mentioned above for the tablet account), not by the facility itself.
Mailing and Commissary Information
Sending and receiving mail is one of the ways family and friends can maintain contact with an individual incarcerated in the Broome County Correctional Facility. To send mail to an inmate, individuals must address the mail correctly and use the correct mailing address. The correct format is as follows.
(Inmate’s Name)
Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility
P.O. Box 2047
Binghamton, NY 13902-2047
All mail sent to the facility is inspected before being delivered to the inmate. Any mail containing contraband will be rejected and may result in criminal charges for the sender. Money orders may also be sent to the facility. The money received is not handed directly to the inmate; it is deposited into their commissary account, where they can access it as needed.
